anyone know of good bobcat scent to get and where. wanna start training to strike off the box and dont have finished dog to go off. starting with two young guns. doin great on coons just need to step it up to bobcat.

grawes lures hands down and use mike leonard tranning method works great

Put u a caged bobcat wet with water on him in the ditch
Put extra cat scent on him
Dogs will start fireing as u move by.
After they do good, move cat a little further from the road. untill they have to really do some high class smelling.

U can use a ditch lion, with bobcat scent on him, but it would be unlawful I think.

started my pup with Mike Leonard's cat training method this summer and wasn't sure if it was working or not, cause she never opened until the tree and kind of ran it half-a$$ed as have all my dogs. Got my chance to check her progress the other day. found a fresh cat track the other day and let the pup smell it. she started opening and getting jacked like she knew what she was supposed to do. a couple more weeks and we'll see what she can do for real.

Grawes is the way to go. I have a Bloodhound bitch that trained great from grawes bobcat scent. They're right out of North Dakota. Great stuff, call em up and they'll tell ya the best way to use it too.

I've been taking my pups while they are still small over to a buddies ranch that has barn cats running around. I leave the pups there for three weeks. Both pups and cats are free to run. Pups train themselves to like to run cat and tree. Its like a party for them. Its legal. Makes them cat crazy. Bring them to my kennel and I think they dream of the good ole days at the ranch. I also work them on scent trails after that. I drag wet grawes scented teddy bears and put them up in tree. Pups will tree once they learn the game. I shoot teddy out of the tree and let them tear it up. They love it.

I think it works good for small pups cause there's no claws at the end. It does seem to make them game possesive. Like keep away from my kill. But, that's a better problem to have.

How small are the pups when you put them to chasing barn cats? I grew up being told that a lion dog better be able to tell the difference between a barn cat and a lion. Not to say the pack never mauled a barn cat or two but they were supposed to know better.

Soon as they can keep away from a pi$$ed off cat. I think they can tell the difference just like us. But its still a cat. Hate for cats is in dogs. Letting them interact brings out their instincts, tracking and treeing. And, last time I checked its legal to own cats and dogs together. You need space though. Just my thoughts are its them learning on their own time. You are not going to have a finished or started dog from it of course.
