any one know anything about hammer bread
Does anyone have any knowledge of hammer bread hounds?
Re: any one know anything about hammer bread
There's lots of variation depending on which strain and kennels your talking about. I have a lot of respect for the Hammer line of bluetick coonhounds. Dave Dean is the epitomy of successful hounddog breeding with the understanding that there is no such thing as perfection.

Re: any one know anything about hammer bread
the blue dogs i used to own went back to hammer 9 and 10. not exactly my favorite dogs of all time. i will only give you my opinion of the dogs i owned. slow starters, had an ok nose but noyhing to write home bout, had good mouths, bayed good, decent treeing ability, ok grit but could be whooped of a mean bear pretty easy and lacked sticking power. on the other hand my friend owned a hammer bred male that i considered a rockstar. just a lil slower and a medium nose but he was a dang good dog. so its like anything else its gonna vary from dog to dog and trainer to trainer.

I had a hammer 12 bitch years ago and she produced some of the nicest coondogs I've ran. I regret breeding out of that now for she was small and fast with an awesome nose. Now mine are large and a little slower but still have the nose.
Hunt with respect and live without regrets
