Was wondering if anyone would be interested in showing me the ropes.

Will be looking for probably three hounds in late summer probably pups. I don't care what they are as long as they hunt.

What is the best breed of hound? Probably a controversial question. Next How do you do it? I want to hunt bobcat. and i will travel to hunt bear and Lions. as it is illegal to hunt them in oregon. I can hunt WA.

I am a pro trainer that trains bird dogs (labs, and all the retrieving breeds and pointing and flushing breeds) so i know a little about dogs.

Would appreciate any advise as I'm looking for some dogs that i can just have fun with and not have to compete with. would love to hunt with someone and am very curious of other people secret spots.

I don't know anyone directly in Boardman.. I know there are some hounders in the Hermiston and La Grande area. I don't think they frequent the boards. I did sell a pup to a vet from Hermiston if you ever make it over that way..

As for what type of dog is the best.. That is a LOADED question.. Your best bet is to find someone who is running dogs, try to tag along and see how well they work.. Repeat as needed

You might even try making it to the OUSDA meeting this spring.. There should be a thread on it in the Oregon Club stuff. GREAT way to meet other hounders..

I am not sure if out of staters can put in for the lion draw tags in WA? Washingtoniers help me out with that one.. If not, that means only coon for WA. You would have to go east for bears and lions..

If you are going to live in OR and not get much time to hunt out of state and prefer not breaking the law and looking over your shoulder all the time, I recommend just a bobcat/coon dog.. Makes for much less stressful hunting.

I wouldn't recommend getting 3 puppies at once.. That would be the biggest headache you could think of.. Believe me.. I know.. I would say to buy a cat/coon dog, that is older and broke and going to cost you some dough. Then add a pup.. And then maybe another.. Or if you want to do it the cheaper yet harder way, get one pup and start it yourself.. Again, we have done it and not the least bit easy to do..

And as a side note.. A lot of these Oregon dogs are going to be mixed bred or not papered etc.. Don't overlook them. Some of these guys have been hunting and breeding these dogs for YEARS and are the real deal..

On my way back from washington last week there was a red ford ranger with a dog box in it parked there at the weight scales on the washington side just across the river from umatilla, so theres gotta be someone near you that can help, you might pay attention if you pass those scales and see there rig parked there again.
