Not in your country. They move out of the high country and down into the oaks. All of that country around Pine Flat lake should be full of them right now. Also Mariposa will be good running. They might hole up in HEAVY rain but its been my experience that rain wont faize them. Even snow wont push them out until it gets a foot or better.

Bears are not true hibernators; they go into a seasonal lethargy when certain environmental (weather and food scarcity) and physiological (cholesterol) factors trigger changes to the bear's body. They may come out of their dens during winter as weather conditions and their body's condition permit.
On it's own, heavy rain won't motivate them to go to bed.

I do not think the rain bothers the bears , All comes down to natural feed. I have seen them den in 3rd week of Oct ,I have also seen them after Thanksgiving all with-in a 3 mile radius of our area.

We have had some single digit lows this winter ..... par for our area in Jan.
But we also have a mature bear staying out and about!
I have seen bear tracks in a foot of snow on Christmas Eve before but this tops all I have ever seen.
A forman for a neighboring fruit ranch called me three days ago and told me his wife saw a bear standing up on the orchard. Me thinks it was standing up and picking apples that the pickers missed which are still stuck on the trees.
Their dogs ran over and chased it over to our ranch.
