Best I ever did was 36, but that was 15 years ago when we had some lions. It would be pretty tough to do now.

If a guy can get 10 treed now I'd say he hunted pretty hard, because I find a track only about once every 3-4 times out.

Its too bad really, because I've always felt you need to be catching about 20 per year to really do a dog justice, but its become very tough with everybody killing females and young lions.

When I was in Idaho, I wanted to get a quota on females. It pissed me off when I would catch a female and someone would follow my tracks it and turn out on her and kill it after i left. I hunted hard in Idaho and never treed more than 10. Plenty of bobs though. We have caught 12-or 13 since dec 1 and taken 3 toms, nothing huge 120-150lb range. Two were nice cats. The smallest the dogs caught on the ground and we had to kill it was a mess they had him down and were doing a pretty good job of killing him, I was glad he wasn't a big cat. I still had some torn up dogs and a tracking collar saved one when the cat bit it. I had nine dogs there which helped also.

I average around 8 a season, late Nov. - Mar. Last year I caught 13. This year 4 so far and 3 bobcats. I will generally get snowed out of my area and run out of cat tracks when the deer & elk move to far south.

Best season to date was last year with 1736 lion caught. Worst season was three years ago with only 1723. Average weight is somewhere around 216 pounds, with few going over 230 and the smaller ones at 175 or so. Dogs are really pickin it up this year, so looking to be even better than last, we only run large males, and never turn on females. Got one ole dog specifically scent trained to only open on males, and come back and load up if its a female.

So far have caught 9 since Dec. 1st. Worst year was last year only 6. The year before last was my best year and caught somewhere between 25 and 30. I actually caught more bears last year than cougar which was a new first for me.

I was not going to post on this topic but after seeing some of the other numbers I don't feel so bad. I only hunt 3 canyons around my house about 10 square miles. I free cast almost every morning for 1-3 hours and if nothing else we have a nice walk. Last year 2010 year a few hunting buddys and I took 6 lions (2 females and 4 males).

During the recent snow this year 2011, I found 3 different tracks 1 was 2.5inches likly a small female and the other two were 4+ likly males. Me and the dogs sorta caught one but it was on a nasty cliff, lots of ice and snow and when the lion got over the top I called the dogs off before they tried to follow and fell... As it was my best dog caught a claw on his neck, 3 inch cut but he didn't seem to feel it. I was able to fix it up and its healing well.
