Hey everyone I was wondering how bear races work at comp hunt. I have never been to one. And am curious. On how they work. Do they just take a bear hide and drag it through the woods. Or is there more to it than that. Thanks everyone for the help.

not sure where ,What ,Why there are Bear Comp Hunts . If you figure that out let us know . Use to be some kind of deal in South Carolina ? I think . I certainly would like to find out about it .but then my Blue / Pink / Purple hounds would probably EMBARRASS the competition

Are you talking about bear bays or field trials?

it works as a field trial. dogs are set at a line with a scented hide drug by a fourwheeler and slaps the bottom of a tree with a stuff bear hung up in it. first dog to bark treed wins and its done in heats and finally down to a final two. oh yea dogs that are proven bear dogs usually lose. its the ppl who do that set up year round and only come out for that, that usually wins. the scent is not the same as a real bears and i've seen many proven dogs turn there nose up and go look for the real bear.

well at the rockport field trial.... there is a person that walks the drag out, and they just do one heat all dogs agianst all, and there is first, second and third line and then there is first second and third three.
