Hey all-I am getting Redbone in about a month, he'll be about 8 wks old. I got some coon scent, drag and a raccoon pelt on order, all set to start training. But wondered if anyone would mind us tagging along when he gets old enough?
thanks

Starting pups without a trained hound can be difficult, but I have done it and i started with two redbone pups one worked out the other didnt. Lots of time and effort went into the one that did and it worked for a while. Until she got too smart and wouldn't road anymore. Redbones are extreamly intelligent and learn very fast, but also figure out the shortcuts ( not so good.) Do you have a male or female that will also determine a difference. And who you got it from will to. But goin to the field trials I will agree is good for you and your pup. You meet people and make friends to go hunting with and your pup will get some expirence with a live coon. It will get to bay at it, smell it and even a possible learn to tree with it.
Where are you in Puget Sound?

Thanks for the info. I have a male and got him from Lionslayer in this forum. His parents, (as the name might suggest), hunted Cats in Montana. But also, his Father, (Shaker), came in 1st place on both night at the UKC event down in Oregon at the beginning of March.
I live in Gig Harbor. Joshtee, (here), offered to let us tag along when my pup gets old enough.
I appreciate your input and all others out there.
