Wow. Have our elected officials gotten so lazy that even petty criminals are too much work to catch? They need to go after kids to justify their salary?
These are kids who sicked their dog on a varmint that was damaging their property, that's it. This isn't hunting and hunting regulations shouldn't apply. And as for claims of torture of the raccoon, a dog doesn't know torture (only humans do that). This dog dispatched the raccoon as quickly as it could, I am sure of it.
Here's a link to the County's website so we can all tell them what we think. Maybe it's time we started calling these elected officials out for their laziness. They all work for us and we have a right to focus their activities on things we deem a danger to us and our families. A dog dispatching a raccoon does not fall into this category as far as most are concerned.
Their time and effort need to be *redirected* toward prosecuting real criminals. I'm sure the real bad guys are out there, even in Jackson County MI.

I'm from Michigan and the DNR there have had some major controversial decisions.
About 10 years ago, they showed up at several training pens for beagles with trapped rabbits and offered to sell them. The guys that purchased the rabbits were fined heavily, had their licenses pulled for years. One guy lost his truck. It was a rediculous entrapment, and a real black eye for Michigan DNR.
I'm sure your aware of their planting the wolves.....
I'm primarily a beagler, but have 1 coon/cat dog. No one wants to run rabbits in the U.P of Michigan because their beagles get killed by the wolves.
Just north of the bridge a guy lost his whole pack of bear dogs off the tree by wolves.
Stories like this are getting more and more common......I sure hope my 4 kids have the same freedoms Ive enjoyed running hounds. Be sure to support your local sportman associations that fight the tree huggers!!

Sent my reply, mentioned how it would be unsafe for the kid to have interferred with the dog and the coon. Also how agging it on did the coon a favor by making the dog end it faster... both of which are honest points.

I sent my message, I hope it helps. I don't have a problem with what these kids did but we all gotta be carefull and think twice about what we video tape and post on the Web or we could end up being our own worst enemy.
