Is it possible to take one or two good bluetick hounds and chase bobcat/lion in season, then chase coyotes in the off season? Would it work or just ruin the dogs for everything except coyote?

Thanks for any help.

A friend of mine ran bear and lion with plotts.... he also used the same dogs in CA to run fox, but there was times that his dogs would run a fox when he was trying to hunt biggame. the problem is there are way more fox then bear, or lions. if u dont mind running coyotes when you are trying to hunt bear or lion then by all means run coyotes in the off season. but if u want to just run biggame when biggame hunting, You better just get a coyote dog to.

thats just my two cents!!!

i run plotts on bear, coon, cat, and coyote. once you get them running on whatever its time to run after a couple good runs there usually good to go. Might have a little trouble if you get on a tough track and they run across one of the other ones hot, but the more there off the chain and in the woods the smarter and better they get, plus they stay in shape. Last bear season we treed 36 bear hunting mainly weekends, had a couple coon trees during that time and no coyote runs, now during coyote season there rollin on them again, caught one today as a matter of fact, just hate seeing good hounds rott away on a chain when they could be in the woods catching something, just my thought.
