22 mag or the .17 or even my old 22 LR works great.

I have used a 22 Colt Woodsman semi auto pistol with 22 LR high speed hollowpoints for years. You hit them right and that is the end of it and doesn't tear things all up. I have to admit most of our trees are not that tall and if I was hunting in the towering trees of California or the Pacific Northwest I would most liklely op for a rifle with a scope but the caliber would be the same. They are very soft skinned and easy to kill.

I use a browning buckmark .22 with a reddot scope. Tried a .17 a few years ago and went back to the ol .22

Thanks folks......the .22 Mag is a very overlooked cartridge. There's more power there than appears.....

This year bought a .17 mach 2. Best bobcat gun ever. Its a 22 necked down to a .17. Killed it fast no exit.

astringer, You are so right on this with all the new gums coming out no one talks about 22 mag. I love mine use it to hunt coyotes year round and as long as its 250 yrds or less I have no trouble making the shot. I even use my ruger 10/22 in 22 LR to hunt with but stick to 100 yrds or less on it only due to it being open sights.

22lr or 22 mag. I use mainly 22 lr because ammo is cheaper, both kill cats perfectly, especially with head shots. The 22 mag has a little more punch and seems to knock cats back more and have less problems with hanging them up in the tree. If your planning on using the same gun for both bobcats and lions I would prefer the 22 mag, otherwise either works good. I mainly pack a ruger single six with scope, and I can switch cylinders to whichever I like to use. One of the last cats I treed this season a young dog treed by himself and I couldn't find it in the tree, climbed a couple other trees looking for it and could see its tracks in the snow on mistletoed limbs so I knew it was there but couldn't spot it. After a couple hours of looking with binoculars I never could spot it and had shot up all the 22 shells I had with me shooting in clumps trying to get it to move. Was working my way back around to my pack when I finally spotted it. I had the magnum cylinder in my pack with 6 rounds in it so I went down and switched cylinders and shot it out (since it was over 3 miles as a crow flys back to my snowmachine where I had more 22lr shells I was certainly glad I had the magnum cylinder with me)

I agree 100% with the .17 mach 2. I love it. needle hole on the entree and no exit hole. Can not beat it!

S&W 648 22 MAG w/6" barrel,W/Red Dot Scope. The scatter shot load works good to jump them out or in the rocks, less ricochets ,Can also shoot 22LR.Just balloons out the case. Never Know when you might need a little more than the .22 Lr.
