I use 4 of them! Battery life is longer than 7 days and yes you can get a gps reading right up until it dies.(around 10 days) The collar beats garmin hands down in all aspects except the real time map screen.

Jeff,
Have you tried the software Tinyloc has to use mapping on your phone? Really want to find something to get off this Garmin.

Runningdeer,
I do not know Jeff Shaw or where he hunts.
I do know several folks who have tried the Tinyloc. It is my understanding that they communicate from the collar to the receiver on Cell Towers. I have a friend who runs Rabbit Beagles in MD and gets along fine with the Tinyloc.
NO else kept theirs. In Europe the Tinyloc is highly thought of, I hear they have a Cell tower on every hill.
So if you are in an area with good Cell Service go for the Tinyloc. They just will not work for most of us!
More Folks have liked the Sportdog system than the Tinyloc.
As far as Battery life....with a DC 30 and a 15 second update collars will stay hot in to the third day. With the new ALPHA I have had collars stay hot into the Third Day with 5 Sec. updates and the Rescue mode! If you can not find your Hound in three days......well.....

Have'nt been on here in a while so sorry for not answering back... Tinylok does not use cell service at all!... works just like a garmin. The collar works on a signal i believe every 12 seconds for the first 11 hours it is on, then it goes into a save mode. You always get the beep but you have to push a button to wake up(so to speak)the collar for the gps and it will then give a direction. Works that way about 10 days(and claims 7)
The main problem is getting them, they come out Spain. The reciever isnt made well enough(in my opinion), but the collars are as good as any. Later Jeff
Oh, and there is (NO CELL SERVICE) where I hunt..
