I am just getting back into this. I have one Walker that is supposed to be started well. What are your thoughts on running one dog?

It's better than not running any.

Feeding one, costs half as much as feeding two!

I think its better to run one at a time until u finish them then move onto the next. Its hard enough training one yet alone two.

Well hello ferretwyo, were are u located in wyo? I am out of kinnear just starting my self. I think i should have stayed with one or two dogs just cause its hard to hunt all of them enough and then two or more seem to take to trashen easier to me but that just what my dog exper. has been so far.

I personally feel that for just training , running just 1 hound with a finished hound that you are happy with is the best route to go.

I would hunt more than one, what if the one doesnt turn out. You might waste a whole year on one hound that doesnt make the cut. You best bet is get an old hound that knows the ropes and a couple well bred pups and go pound it.

I have had a lot of luck running one dog on lion, bobcat, and coon. A lot of guys have ten hounds but only one good hound. You see guys get their "lead dog" killed then they can't catch anything. I have two dogs and a pup but both older dogs will tree their own game and the pup will in time. One good dog is better than ten crappy ones IMO.

I think for a lot of us it is the best deal if we are honest. Try bringing up a dog and maybe bring in another if the one is proving itself.
There are risks no matter how many dogs you hunt and somtimes you reap them and other times you cheat them and few of us really know either way.
