I'm sure every hunt and every coyote is different, but in general do they just line out and cover a lot of miles or do they run in circles and stay in their home range?

most the time they circle.. but it depends on the dogs as to what type of circle.. if you have fast dogs.. most the time they run farther out before circling around.. if you have slower dogs they don't run out as far... also if you have real fast dogs you'll get a few bay ups cause the yote will be out of his territory or he want have time to get into his den.. with slower dogs he can run ahead and get in his den... hope this helped

have a good one

All depends on the yote, some will circle in the swamp and others will line out, but if they do they usually will end up at some point coming back to where you started them. We dont have to many run into dens here, but when the snow gets deep they like brush piles. Happy hunting and good luck!!

Most circle. But different situations may cause them to line out. Shot at, pressure, late March if you get on a male he may take you out of the area away from the female.

Its different around here then because about 90% of the coyotes we ran usaully line out when they get jumped and we hav had only one coyote ever den up on us but whos to say they didnt lose the coyote and bump a fox because fox whole up everytime around here anyways... All the coyotes run till they catch or the dogs lose them... But dont get me wrong we have once and awhile had a coyote circle and when they do that it is usually done in the pines... Happy Hunting!

Well they do both here. Yotes here usually circle after the jump until you bump them out, then they line out and will usually circle again. If they circle, we like to send a guy in the brush. He has a good chance at getting a shot at the yote or spooking it out to new ground. It can get awfully tracked up in an area if they circle in there for awhile. Most yote circles aren't real tight though, it might be a half mile or better.

Thanks for the info. I saw a pic of a walker running a yote in a magazine. The look on the yotes face was worth a million bucks. I grew up on a beef ranch in the central part of Nevada and have a real passion against yotes. I have been hunting lions for a lot of years. When I get to old to hike these giant mtns. around here I am for sure getting some running dogs and cruising through the flats. This looks like a ton of fun, listening to hound and you get to kill coyotes too.

Almost all of our coyotes line out but I live in very open country.

I cant really speak on the subject here in Idaho but back in NY they almost always circled. When they start pairing up or get shot at or run into a hunter they'll line out imo and we had HIGH pressure hounds. When hunting late in the winter we jump a male usally that came from far to breed, usally from the Andirondak State park :D And as sure as the sky was blue he be laying it down back North. We would be up on the last road before the park trying to stop them.

Here they line out on high ground and when they hit the small pines or swamps will circle all day. In breeding season the males will leave the country and go back to wherever they came from

In our area it depends on the terrain and the conditions. If the snow is deep you can't hardly get them in the open without a lot of pressure. In the open country, the smart ones will line out and skirt the edge of the woodlots without going in at all while staying in the middle of the sections, crossing as many roads as they can. If they stay at it and don't look back it is hard to get dogs on them, by the time you dump they are across the next road. Usually will wind up in a tube.

Seems to me they circle better when u run them in the big swamps and woods. In the broken up farm land we have them circle little plots of woods and then line out to another one and circle snd so on untill its killed. Most end up back where it was jumped as well.
