Wooden over the rail dog box build

Two things first:
1. I am not a welder so metal is out
2. I have plenty of plywood/lumber so wood is free
3. Money is tight so wood is the way to go in the short term

Thinking of building an over the rail dog box for for my hounds out of wood- would fit in an F250 8ft box. I'd attach with the same 4 clamps I hold my truck topper on with. tailgait would open to the wooden doors and the tailgate would act as a collar staging platform. Anyone ever do something similar? Advice, comments and constructive criticism all welcome. We don't rig off the truck- so the opening don't have to allow thier heads to pass through. Thanks folks. Paul Conway

Paul this is my old box that I built in an afternoon. You can make it the length of the bed, and then you will only have to put a center divider and the doors on the rear. I used barbeque grills as doors, but you can use wood too. Simple and easy to do, and you can haul a pile of dogs in it. I also used ties in the box to keep the hounds from piling out when your unloading them.

I also had drop down doors on it to shut the holes when needed.

Worked great for me at the time.

Thanks greg, didn't think about tying the dogs off inside, that's a terrific idea. about how high were your sides? got to get the truck into the garage to do brakes, rotors, calipers, bearing and shocks so I' guess I'll add this to the list and get it done. Time to start running the young hounds. thanks for posting your picture. Keystonepaul
