they're a solid rifle and the cartridge is a good one too if loaded right. the real draw back is most get sporterized and finding window dressings for them can be hit or miss. the magazine is known to dump on the more worn out rifles. the bores are pretty standard on the ones I've messed with unlike some other military rifles of that period. I had one that I got some real good accuracy out of I don't think it saw much service and was real clean. I guess the real issue for most is it's not the rifle the 06 is and finding ammo at your local store may be difficult in some areas. my .02 :)

Mine has a better trigger than most surplus rifles and it groups pretty well. My biggest complaint is that it is impossible to work the bolt quietly when loading a shell in the chamber and the safety is crap, so it isn't the stealthiest hunting rifle around. The carbines make pretty good saddle guns.

For the price, cant beat it.

$69 at AIM, + FFL fees.
Get the Hex Reciever if you get one.
Load is between a 308 and 30-06 at 7.62 x 54. Nice guns.

You can make them more accurate also by free floating the barrel.
Nice SHTF gun, ammo is very cheap and abundant on the net.

Will take down moose, bear or anything in America or Russia out to 200m, more if scoped and accuracy as i suugested with barrel.

They are long and heavy, so I prefer the M44, but its $100 more money.
Great truck guns

thanks for input guys i picked one up yesterday at a gunshop for 150..i went with the M44 just cause of the shorter barrel i figured it would be easier to lug around that the standard 91/30 models

this place has atleast 40 surplus nagants and i just couldnt resist the rifle for the price. i've spent the last day cleaning it up and getting the cosmoline off, but the rifle is in fantastic shape mechanically and the bore is excellent. it was made in '46 so i figure it never saw service as the russians already adopted the SKS as the standard military rifle if i'im not mistaken..i was lucky enough that there was a man there that was well versed in russian weapons and he really taught me about them so i'm grateful for that.

as far as the7.62X54 this same location has literally cases of it and at 6 bucks for 20 rounds it cant be beat by any other centerfire weapon i can think of lol

i cant wait to get out this weekend and put some rounds through it

remember the down falls of all that old surplus ammo clean the barrel regularly with a good quality solvent and don't get caught lobbing ball ammo at any game animals.
