I have a question i have a pup that been doing it all (tree, rig, start out of bait, and fast on track) since 6 months old of last july. She really surprized me because she had no training besides a caged coon. I use her on bear. The thing is she was doing it all with my older dog. Except for a couple weeks when he was swiped by a bear, she did fairly good during that time. she was very fast but notice at times on the gps she was ahead but would wait up are maybe caught the bear and the older help start pushing it again.(what do you think?) got help to push or waiting? Anyway getting to my real question I lost my older dog over the winter and was wondering can i expect her to do the same without him. she hasnt run since mid oct. i have added more 4 more dogs all pups only one has been on bear and suppose to be good. what do you guys think will she step up and keep doing it with out him? shes been on 9 kills.

I defenitly think that your dog should be able to do it again from what u said it was doing. Best of luck this year.

pups sounds like a dandy but putting 4 more pups behind a young dog is a receipe for trouble an awful lot of presure for one young started dog to handle if there is much off game around you can overload a track with young dogs a have a big cluster f$$k one good older dog would help out to keep them strait

I think a dog like that is a natural and will be a winner no matter what you do with it. dogs that do it all at 6 mo will be far ahead of the others it's own age the rest of its life.jmo

My lead dog now was nine months before he was even off a chain. He started walking behind me then eventually started to run with the dogs then eventually wouldnt leave my lead dogs side. He's 3 1/2 and I hunt all young dogs with him and he leads them fine. I hunt the piss out of him too. I would do the same with your dog. Hunt alot. Just have to control the number of dogs you have out all at once or too fast on a track. I think you'll be fine. just gotta take it slow with other pups. Thats a problem I've found when hunting alot of young stuff. You feed em so you decide but I think if I did the whole raise a pack thing, I would start with the best two. Grow them up then add on if needed. I'd add an old lead dog, haha. Naw, you'll find a way. Good luck

Kinda was thinking along the same line rezdog, just run the best two for a bit and see how they work together. Oh ya i'll be running the hell out of them as much as i can, i did last year with her and she didnt get wore down one bit. Shes 1/2 walker 1/2 plott, just added 3 more plotts and a 1/2 walker 1/2 english. Just always had a pup trainer to help out, still might get one. anyway crossing my fingers lol What do you run?

I run everything with a pad and toes. And hooves too unfortunately! Still looking for a dog to put enough heat on a coyote to put it up a tree... I try to just keep my pack on bear, lion, bobcat and coon. I like how the younger dogs are like a little kid or the energizer bunny and keep goin and goin. One thing I do is stay right behind them in case theirs any that get off track. And so I can be at the tree ASAP so I can make sure and keep them all there.
