With the age of portable computers; has anyone tried using a protable computer to reach Google Earth to follow the roads to the tree? If so, lets us know how well it works.

I don't really follow roads but use it to get a idea of the ridges and canyons along with rock piles and tree densities. it works alright you just have to apply common sense and experience to the interpretation of them as they are taken at various times of day/year

I used google earth to pre scout Elk hunting area and it worked great. I found it very useful.

Buddy sells a state land status topo map for the Garmin Asto that shows BLM, State, Private, National Forest and all the roads and different hunt areas for deer, elk, and antelope. It is awesome and very useful to know where you are at and how to get in an out of areas you want to hunt. Very useful for both lion hunting and guiding deer, antelope and elk hunters. I would reccommend it to anyone who hunts not just guides and outfitters. You can cut your walking time down and there is no second guessing if you are where you are supposed to be when hunting around private land.
