Lots of bears have been taken with a 30/30 and they are sure nice if you have to get in the brush with a bear up close. My pick would be a 45/70 but its not on the list.

Any caliber 30-30 or higher is fine Placement of shot is the critical factor

im hopin for a double lung shot and maybe a double lung heart shot but from all i have seen a double lung shot is the best i can hope for i may take my 8mm with the heavier slugs lots of damage internally but i want to save the hide too

Redneck : not sure where you are going ,which state . Handgun hunting is legal in Maine :I carry a 454 Casul .But prefer the 12 ga slugs when they are coming out of the tree. 95% of the time the one shot does the trick

I switched from a winchester 30-30 with 165 grain to a remington 30.06 with 180 grain. I like the extra range and the knockdown you get from the 30.06. I never let one get away with the 30-30, but they didn't die as quick either.

I have always taken my lever marlin 30-30 it has done the job over and over but now i carry a 44mag revolver but you have a 30-30 that's what i would use they are excellent "brush" guns and great for the close range

Cant go wrong with a 30-30, but any pistol 44 or bigger is much easier to pack escpecialy when your hauling leashed up dogs out of the brush
