Freeze branding question(s)

I am planning on doing some freeze branding. I have irons made by L&H. Any recommendation on how long on the ears? I will be using liquid nitrogen. Also, will I need to cover the ear with alchohol prior to branding if I am using the liquid nitrogen?

A simple search of the Forums on here will answer your questions.

Zach. I did search the forums. I am not quite computer competant but I did not see anything that was specific to those questions. The times for the ears were with dry ice not liquid nitrogen and the times for liquid nitrogen were for the body not the ears :?

buzz the ears, wipe down with at least 70%, 90% is better Isoproypol. Once the handle starts getting the crystals on it then the iron is ready. Assuming you are using a brass one for freeze branding hold on ear for 10 seconds. Good luck make sure you got plenty of help.

I have always branded on the ear with dry ice. Ice is cheap and does a great job. An 8 to 10 pound block in a thick styrofoam cooler with a gallon and a half of 99% alcohol. let brand freeze for at least a half hour. shave ear with the finest blade available and wipe with alcohol. Brand ear for 18 sec on plotts and 15 on other breeds. Brand needs to be on ice again for at least 20 min. before branding again. keep cooler covered.
This has worked without a flaw for us for 25 years. The alchol is the most expensive part and hardest to get. most liquor store have the ice.

L & H Brands is where a lot of people get them. I got mine from a member on here, and it worked great, but I do not know if he is still making them or not. But is was very affordable for a custom shaped brand. Cost me about 30 dollars. His were made from 3/8 or so inch flat brass stock. Worked great and the price was right. Let me know if you want me to look him up for you.

6-7 sec. on walkers...... 8-9 sec. on any other dog..... the walkers skin tends to burn faster then plots, b&T and Blue ticks. make shure u use lots of alcohol to prevent the brand from sticking and get a good shave on the ear, or u have to hold your brand longer.
