Help identifying my puppy

Hi guys, I'm new here and probably going to be ridiculed as I don't use my boy to hunt....yet. I'd love to get him trained and use him on occasion but I'm curious as to what kind of pup he IS.

I went to Houston, Texas to rescue a "Bluetick Hound" and when I got to Houston and picked him up, I quickly realized "This boy ain't no BT"

He is coming up on 6 months of age and just weighed in a 55 pounds (he needs to lose a few pounds) and is a smart damn dog. He's got a pretty deep chest, long lanky legs with huge paws and his head is shaped like a Gascon but looks like he's got Bloodhound facial features.

All of the research I have done online leads me to believe he is a Gascon but I wanted to ask around here first.

Thanks!

Riduculed? Here? Why would anyone think that?
He looks bluetick to me, they make some big 'uns.
You might talk to Steve Morrow or someone and ask concerning the majestics.
What's the .45 for? Is he protecting his dog food?

Well, I'm not really a hunter (Country boy stuck living in the suburbs) but really want to get him and his "sisters" (Black and tan coonhound and a Catahoula Leopard Dog) out working on tracking or scent but It's hard to do when you don't own land (will hopefully own some acreage in the next couple years)

The .45 IS for protecting his food but he doesn't really need it. This dude is a land shark and eats everything that touches the floor.

All of the Blueticks I have seen are leaner, not as heavy boned and don't have as much jowl as this guy.

Here are some more pics. I'm worried his bottom teeth are growing outwards at an angle too much. I'm probably just paranoid and he'll grow into them hopefully.

I put a stuffed squirrel in the tree.

Pretty sure it is Bluetick... the color and markings indicate a good amount of the Smokey River Diamond Jim stock.. some of those did get a good bit of size. Johnny Knowles old Lucifer was close to 90 lbs... some of the Smokey River Grover hounds were in that size range too.

History is what you did in the summer the future is what he does in the season. Work on trailing then you'll be ready for that hunting trip. Lots of folks live in a city. Once you get your hounds running you won't let it slow you down.
Here they call em by color hell some will argue a heeler is a bluetick all day. Good luck hope you find a huntin spot

I'm still not sure he's a Bluetick. All of the pics I've looked at lead me to believe he's a Gascon but I'm not sure.
