English pup progress

got my 8 month old pup runnin' pretty good. gettin to the point where he will go out and hunt as soon as i let him out of the box his nose hits the ground and hes lookin for a track. One thing i got a question on is sometimes he wont go out and hunt unless if im right by his side i was wonderin if that is something i need to work with him on or not?
