DFG hosts bear hunting clinic

The California Department of Fish and Game and the Pacific Coast Hunter Education Instructor Assocation will hold a bear hunting clinic at Ono Range in Shasta County on March 1.

Instructors will discuss bear biology, their habits and habitiat as well as what is necessary to hunt a bear.

The clinic will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and cost $40. Lunch will be provided for a $5 donation.

Space is limited. Registration forms can be found at www.dfg.ca.gov/huntclinics.

Ono Range is 15 miles west of Redding.

I wouldnt give DFG 45 cents

I probably won't register, 'cause I already know how to hunt bears, but I sure would be interested in the two hounds they're gonna auction off!!

BTW HardHittin, you probably mean Ono Grange. It is the main hall right in down town Ono.

I was suprised to see it was pro-hound as usually CADFG seems to think we are all a bunch of devil worshipers. I don't think I'd sign up for the class but I'm going to contact the gal in charge and offer to volunteer some more hounds/knowledge for people in the class to look at...anything I can do to promote hounding in a good light!

Reading in my 2008 CADFG Hunting Digest it says they are actioning off two B&T Pups.

Bearclaw, the pic in my signature is of our dogs Sassy, Dutchess, Buster and Beau. Sassy and Buster are littermates, mostly Lipper and Coma bred. Beau and Dutchess are littermates, both heavily inbred Sackett Jr.

We had a pretty rough season. Lost two dogs, not a lot of time to hunt, and not very many bears. Our quota was reached and season closed early.

IM FROM IDAHO AND WAS PLANNING ON MAKEING A TRIP TO NOR CAL TO DO A LITTLE BEAR HUNTING BUT I DIDNT MAKE IT. I GUESS IT MAY HAVE BEEN FOR THE BETTER THOUGH. I CAME OVER THE YEAR BEFORE AND IT TURNED INTO A SIGHT SEEING TRIP. HAD A GOOD TIME TRAVELING AROUND AND SEEING ALL THE BIG FOOT STATUES.




I HOPE NEXT YEAR IS BETTER FOR YOU. I KNOW AROUND HERE WE HAD BEARS DOWNTOWN LOOKING FOR FOOD. IT WAS SUCH A DRY YEAR AND ALL THE BERRIES GOT FROZEN IN THE SPRING. THIS MADE IT REALY TOUGH ON THE BEARS I HOPE THEY WINTER WELL.

Bearclaw, It was deffinately a messed up year altogether, but, that's life.

Not sure how I go them to stand so purty. They are all pretty flashy marked, and have decent conformation. Maybe that makes them seem pretty. I had them tied up resting walking back from a tree. They were all pretty hot and tired, and just kinda stood there. They are all used to being coupled together... So no secret really. I just happened to snap a pic it was such a nice clear day.

Next time your out in Cali look us up. I'm always happy to meet new folks. Hope your next trip is better!

I DIDNT REALIZE THAT THEY WERE ALL COUPLED TOGETHER. THEY JUST LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE ALL STANDING IN FORMATION READY TO SALUTE.

I ENJOY SWAPING LIES ALMOST AS MUCH AS I DO HUNTING BEAR. SO YA I WILL DEFINITELY HOLLER AT YOU IF I MAKE IT UP THAT WAY. I WOULDNT MIND LOOKING UP THAT GREY FOX FELLAR TOO. HE SEEMS TO BE A WISE OL HOUND.
