Today we went out, struck a bear pretty early. Turned out the hounds, after a bit they showed treed so I went on in to the tree. I got about 15 yards from the dogs, it was really thick and brushy so I could not see the dogs but could hear them. As I was climbing up a steep bank a bear busted out of the brush, slamed into me knocking me down and bit me on the leg, luckily my dogs was on him quick so he ran. I got up got my camera out and ran after the dogs and got some pictures of him on the road and some after he treed. He treed about 75 yards from where he attacked me. What a day!!! Got some stories to share with the guys at work monday! Here are some pictures, I didnt get a very good one of the bite was more worried about getting it cleaned and bandaged, they are some deep puncture wounds. I will get some better pictures tomorrow when I chang the bandages.

A little advice on the puncture wounds. Make sure you are up to date on tetnus. Also, better go have it looked at just incase. About a month or so ago I was walking though an old burn area and fell on some old burned buck brush. A branch went in my inner arm and was pretty deep. I didnt get it treated and as it was healing it kinda looked like proud flesh. I kept it cleaned and bandaged but now I have a nasty raised scar that still looks like it didn't heal as it should of. Puncture wounds are far more serious and harder to heal than a cut. Also since it was an animal bite it might get infected from the bacteria in the bears mouth. I know lion bites are always bad for that.

I got it cleaned up really good, I havnt had a tetnus shot in about ten years, so I am going to go to the doctors and have it looked at and get a shot tomorrow. My shoulder and leg are sore as hell right now, just taken it easy and going to bed early tonight. Dont think I will make it hunting tomorrow, going to give the hounds a break, they saved my a$$ today.

Yeah, its deffinitly a memory I wont soon forget. As far as the "Nay Sayers" I was hunting with three other friends, they can verify it.

i know 3 people that have been bit here in oregon . 1 was a lady took a coffee size chunk out of her thigh. 2 was a guy that was standing on the down hill side of a colvert , he got his forearm chomped on. another guy was running in for the finish shot and tripped , his feet landed on the bears chest . got bit through the foot. another guy got bit in the face about 20 years ago over by diamond lake but i didnt know him. i bet your going to be a sore S.O.B. in the morning.

I can tell you this if there is any "Nay Sayers" then they have not spent much if any time bear hunting cause it happens and happens fast. We had a big one this yr that I had to get right up on and shot it with my .357 to finish off and if it had not had a dog in his mouth at the time Im sure I would have looked just as bad as your leg if not worse off when I grabbed him by his ear to spin his head around for a shot with out hitting the dog. Glad your safe and shared it with us all keep an eye on it close.

Yeah if I was you Id go to the doctors to go get a tetnus. I got bit last year twice by the same little 70lb bear. I had to chase a bear out of a church and it didnt end well. Well trying to pull dogs off this bear he bit me in the hip and lower leg. For some reason those damn bites are sore as hell for a couple weeks! I can never remember when I got my last tetnus and the cops made me go to the hospital and they gave me one just in case even though I didn't even need to be there in the first place personally, but a good precaution. Your bear was a little bigger than mine! LMAO Great pics and great story by the way!

Yeah, my whole left side is sore this morning, I think I will head to the doctor today to make sure it is cleaned out good and get a tetnus shot. I cleaned it up as good as I could last night and took some of my hounds amoxicilin to keep it from getting infected.

That was a great story put a little smile on my face thinking of the colse calls. Hope all turns out well at the docs, and keep them pics comin.

I just spent a week at the burn center in salt lake city. I wont be hunting for a while.

Yeah, those two aint stupid, that bear was making a move for them in that picture. I am glad they were there when I needed them, they saved my a$$! Sadie got hurt by that big bear we treed earlier this year, I think she learned how to get out of the way. LOL.
