Not wanting to start a fight but im new to this and am trying to decide between bluetick and a Plott. i have access to good dogs of both breeds i was wondering if there is a big speed diff in the two or pretty comaprable i know each line will vary but just in a general. thanks

It's like comparing a Ford and A Chevy, it depends what's under the hood. You should see the dogs you have access to run or know who's telling you about them (quite well).

thanks i kinda figured that but i was told by a guy that i dont put a hole lot of stock in what he says. I will be running with blueticks almost 99%n of the time and he said the plott would be alot faster and may not work as well as a getting a dog closer to the blueticks. the other guy in run with have plotts. i figured it was hog wash but wanted to check and see what you guys thought if there was that big of a diff. thanks. not trying to start fight just new to the hound world.

I have both, plotts and blueticks, and from what I have seen with my dogs is my slowest bluetick will flat out smoke my fastest plott. Out of the dogs in MY PACK, there is no comparison, the blueticks that I have, have a much better nose, better voice, alot faster, more stamina, and better feet than my plotts. I am sure there are people that will argue against that but this is what I have seen out of my own dogs.

that's my pack exactly. any of the plotts I have ran with my pack could definately win a hundred yard dash against my dogs or even win a race roading, but trailing game they are always in last place.
I also put a small splash of walker in the mix to add brains and nose to those blues. JMO.

I couldnt get rid of my plotts, they were my first hounds and they are really good bear dogs.

A good hound is a good hound. Color doesn't make a difference. Anybody that says one breed is better than another is full of it. Its all what you have and prefer.

I've hunted alot of different dogs and the way I see it is they're all individuals just like people. You would be crazy to listen to the plott guy who says his pack is better than blueticks and even crazier listening to the bluetick man who says his pack is better than plotts! Ha. I don't think I've seen a pure blue dog or a pure plott that would outdo my plott bluetick crosses or my walker bluetick crosses. Not saying pure breeds aren't worth a crap, I just think there might be a better walker or such out there that your blue or brindle guys couldn't even hang with. Just don't let someone elses mind make yours up. Hunt with all the hounds and houndsman you can and you'll soon figure out everyones full of bs! Ha. Just keep an open mind and good luck.
