I have a female with a coarse long coat. The whole litter came out like this. Bolth parents are beautifull plotts with fine coats. The papers burned up in a fire on the sire and the dams were never sent in. Could anybody guess the cause of this. The pups that i know of all run great, even that they arent much to look at with the long coats and cur headed features. Ever had a cross when the cur came back after many years??

I have one that was given to me that has a coarse coat, big blocky head, and a flag tail. Sire was slick coat and black brindle, Dam was maltese with a slick coat. I don't have papers for him, but he is suppose to be purebred. He is making a pretty nice dog. More nose than any of my other dogs, but he ain't much to look at. LOL

I have heard that back in the day people were mixing DD dogs (Drahthaar) with there plott's. Maybe that came out in them . What are you going to do with the puppies.

We have a quite a few with thicker hair and flag tails. I think it comes from the Cascade breeding in their background, but I can't say for sure.

all the plotts i had when i was a kid in north idaho were flag-tailed, cur-headed, and coars-coated...and they were bear dogs to boot. if i were to get back into plotts, that's the kind i would look for.

Some down my way say it's from tight breeding!
