well only 4 more days boys and girls! Hope this is a good year for everyone and we all stay out of trouble! lets try and keep units open as long as we can this year and none of this being open for two days then the unit be shut down due to sows being killed!!!! not trying to be the asshole but we dont have a pursuit season and this is the only way we can run bears and train pups and young dogs its only fair! well best of luck to everyone and remember kill a boar hunt some more!!!!!!!!!!!!

How long of a season do you guys have, if the sow quota isn't met? I was born and raised there but didn't get into dogs till aftter I left, often thought about bringing the dogs back home to do a little running. Mike

If sow qouta is NOT met, our season lasts August 5th to August 18th then August 19th to September 8th (I believe) then September 30th to December 31st

How did everyone do? We managed to put up two big boars. Lots of guys concentrated cuz that burn but we got it done.

Just wondering how you sex an average size bear 100 feet up a tree?

If it's a nice 1 you'll know just by looking at it, or you should, if it's just avg. why kill it. Dead bears don't leave tracks and you'll never run it again.

Take binos to the tree, The facial characteristics should give it away averytime if you know what you are looking at. If you find track before you let out, you can usually tell what you are running with a little practice.

I like to sit and watch the bear and more then likely you will see it pee and it will either be coming from the belly area or in between the legs

Sorry, but there are some sows with really blocky heads and nice feet, sometimes you can look and be 100% sure, and when it hits the ground get a shocker, not too often, but the head and tracks are not a sure fire way to tell, even to people who catch 100 bears a year for 30 years.

Hmm... You bring up a great point, I guess you then have to look and see if the claws are painted or not?

Yes i used to look for a belly button ring but with the recent discovery of males now getting this done i am now lost in the sauce.
