dog doesn't eat

I've got a nice little dog I got from a friend of mine larry schoonover it hasn't ate much dry dog food lately. I'm sure it is just to hot to eat much. But tonight sighting out side grilling a couple of elk steaks having a few beers watching the hounds I notice the little dog going along the change link fence licken at it, we watch a little closer and it's eating grasshoppers like crazy. Now I'm thinking if I can get them all to eat grasshoppers I

hey you can make bank on that dog eating all the hoppers. 
Maybe you should should feed it like you do your dogs in the winter time and wet the food down? Or pour some bacon grease on it? My dogs are eating less in the heat, but going through water like crazy. Hope all is well with you
