I have 2 cameron hound and they are from 2 different litters and are very slow to start. any info on this breed would be much help.

dont worry about those dogs i had a few cammeron dogs that i though wouldnt start but when they came on they finished out to be really solid dogs just dont let those dogs loose until you know what you are putting them on or 100% trust the other dogs you are hunting with do that the frist couple years and they will figerout the rest you wont have regret good luck

Thanks one is almost 2 and other is 1 1/2 they rig good and have treed good with old dogs a couple times. The big problem is when I turn them out they trail out a few hundred yards and if they think it goes left thats the way they go it dont matter what way the old dogs go. Then they get out of the chase and i have to catch them up. Its just hard I have so much time and money just want to see a little more.

all the ones I have ever seen are way slow starters, but do finish out to be exellent dogs. my only problem with that is you coulda finished a out a few ganerations of a different line in the time it took you to finish out that 1 dog. not tryin to start a pissin match, cuz I know there are people that will defend this breed to the death. also I think there are so many lines of watered down camerons out there that they almost don't desearve the title. maybe if they come directly from dels stuff they'd be quicker. JMO

I drove 43 hours 2 times last summer to dels place. This is why im looking for someone who knows more about these dogs.

i have a half cameron half lipper walker i bout out of washington as a pup in DEC hes ten months old and has been going with dogs since he was 6months old on hogs and bear has always tracked himself back to where he was started if he gets slung out of a race and last week he struck trailed and bayed a hog alone im more then pleased with this hound

Ive only seen about 7 or 8 Cameron pups and they are all early starters but I guess its who's raising them and the breeding behind them. Several different strains of Cameron blood out there, only original blood there is is what comes from Del himself. So I suppose the strains Ive hunted have all been pretty early starters to my standards but everyone has different standards so to each his own.

I've always figured a pup that had it from truck to tree solo between 3- 9 months old an early starter. 1- 1.5 regular and 1.5 - 3 slow. I've only ever hung on to a couple dogs that couldn't tree at least their own snow lion by 1 year.
I run 2-3 times a week all year, so I probably expect more than some one who runs once a month. to them a 2 year old gettin er done might be a quick starter. We're all just as different as our dogs.

what type of game are you running them on? you got the both from Del himself? who is the parents of the pups if you dont mind me asking.

Why don't you just call Del and talk with him? I'm sure he could give more insight.

One female is out of camerons blue slash and mother is camerons blue cayon belle. The other is camerons blue canyon joe and mother is Dustins desert rim blue belle.

Treed 3 bears today and the 2 blue dogs treed 1 with the help of one old dog. I think they may be on their way. Thanks.

I have some out of Dustin's kennel. Fastest starters Ive ever seen. I have had one slow starter. Almost got rid of her, but she did work out. I got her a little bit older. Seems like the ones I put a lot of time early on end up starting early. I do back off a bit if it seems like they are not ready. I'd say in general, Camerons are early starters compared to most. Full camerons are gamey driving early starters.
