WHO HUNTS BOBS ON THE HIGH PLAINS??????

NORTH EAST MONTNA OR NORTH DAKOTA. LAST YEAR I TARGETED SLEWS ON THE RIVER BOTTOMS WHERE THE GAME BRIDS WHERE HOLED UP. DIDNT HIT THE HILLS AT ALL. JUST WANTED TO KNOW WHAT YOU LOOK FOR WHEN GOING TO LOOK FOR TRACKS.....

I don't hunt the plains as often. I did start out on them though. Its sounds simple but works. Any marked variation in vegetation or topography is a good bet. Edges of crp and crop land work great because its a natural ambush site. Canals. old farmyards. Orchards. Creeks it seems if its a land mark to you its probably a good bet. There's so few places in many of those areas to hole up most are used often and all occasionally. I found they will hunt mice in the open but are sure to be within dashing distance to some cover if they get hunted much at all. So keep to what ever "edge" there is and your chances of hitting a track sore. Even in the few areas with brush or cover you will find they spend more time along the fringe then in the center. I believe this is due to the prey and their habits. Get on some snow tracks and follow them out and they won't miss very many differences in the terrain they check them all for the most part. High points are often used also. Very seldom did I trail one in a very wide open area with no escape into fence lines etc. It doesn't take a huge area to feed a cat.
