South Texas or West Texas Lion hunters going 2 Old Mexico?
Has anybody been crossing over the river to hunt bobcat and lions?? Anybody doing any preadtor work for the Mexican cattlemans assoication or going into central america for lion killing stock?? Is that all over, what about the McBrides and McKinneys out in Alpine Texas, is the state still paying animal damage lion hunters??? Trying to find somebody who still catches lions and bobcats in Mexico???

The few that I know here in south Texas that used to go into Mexico have stopped. With all the trouble they are having down in Mexico right now, everyone is to scared to cross over. I have heard the native cat hunters in Mexico have really slowed down because of being scared to haul their dogs. Afraid the drug dealers will shoot their dogs. Robbie

Robbie pretty much sumed it up.
I just talked with the outfitter in Hermosillo yesterday that we do our hunts with in Sonora, and asked that exact question.
I have a litter of good pups comming up and wanted to take a couple to Mexico in Jan so we had something to put with the pack one of the cowboys has on a ranch in the Sierra Madres.
I was told very few of the coyboys are running their hound anymore because they are scared to run into something they can't tree..and there are so many snares and traps as well as poisin out it's tough on the hounds, more so than it has been in the past.
On another note I'm not sure you can legaly kill a lion n Sonora anymore?
Rocky is still runnin afew lion in West Texas I believe but has been doing more with the jaguar captures in Paraguay...

To my knowledge, there is only one Government lion hunter in Texas. He has been there for about 22 years, and lives in Ft. Stockton. There are others that do lion work, but he is the only guy that works ONLY lions, and he runs dogs for all of his work.
IS that accurate, Shorty?

Re: South Texas or West Texas Lion hunters going 2 Old Mexic
Benny,
That is correct. He's the only government hound man in the state and only works lions. He also sets some traps from time to time, but 99% of the time only uses dogs. Most his trapping is done in the summer months when its to hot to run the dogs for very long. The government also has several trappers that are doing work for them. They to will make sets for lion but their primary focus is coyotes, bobcats and other small predators. That is some rough country that them guys work in. I know the man that your talking of catches quite a few lions for the country he hunts. He's not a numbers guy and could care less about that. His numbers also wouldn't impress most people, unless they've hunted the country he hunts.

Re: South Texas or West Texas Lion hunters going 2 Old Mexic
hello.- I live 150 miles from the bridge,in Monterrey Mexico is the city whit the bulet and the mountains and if there are drug problems, but my biggest problem is the dry
this year is very hot and dry, while not catch half of the lions and bobcats mabe when the rains come it gets better.
this year my friend Wayne Ellisor and me, hunt 30 miles from the bridge we saw lion tracks, but many bobcats is the problem , dogs trail the lion and jumping the bobcat
last year caught 7bobcat in 2 days and this lion had good luck.
The drug war is between them, just be careful of not being with bad people. and social hours
SORRY MY INGLISH

Re: South Texas or West Texas Lion hunters going 2 Old Mexic
Memo,
I have always wanted to hunt lions in Mexico. I thought that I had a deal made with a guy here, that has family in Mexico, but when it came right down to it, the man on this side wouldn't get down to the details so I backed out. After all of that, I talked with a good friend that had been to Mexico a couple of times and he sort of talked me out of it. It's interesting that Richard Holcomb has been down there, was it recently? I could call him and talk with him about it.
Maybe I got into this just a little too late.

when it comes my friend wayne ellisor I hope the bridge and I pass their dogs and drive in Mexico we have good times and is very funny.
Here it is very important that dogs are broke people will not say their names and come dogs chase bears and coons

Richard Holcomb came to Mexico 2 years ago
is a study of jaguars in Mexico University
I call it the talk a bit more
I would like to talk more and tell stories but my English is very limited
sorry my English
but my heart and my ears understand the dogs from any country

Re: South Texas or West Texas Lion hunters going 2 Old Mexic
I have sent numerous dogs over the years to some wonderful friends i have in Mexico. Ranchers and fine hunters these men have done well with the dogs but recent developments with cartels and such have made travel for them much more difficult in the areas where they live and their hunting has been affected by this. Most of this was in the eastern coastal areas. I had two friend who were hunting the Sierra Madres and building a hunting lodge there. They were stopped at gun point on the road by banditos and all their money, guns as well as their pickup was taken. They did survive although they were roughed up but they abondoned their hunting lodge plans and came back to the US and vowed they would not invest any money or risk their lives to hunt there until these matters were resolved. It is too bad becasue many wonderful Mexican people are suffering and some having to live in vitual exile while these bad people run wild.

It is sad to see what has happened in Mexico over the past years , I can remember when I first went down in the early 80's you could leave anything lay, never have to worry about comming back to camp after dark, if you broke down anyone that stopped you was someone offering help...you never had to worry about a thing ...that's not the case in most areas today.
Mexican people our proud and you can trust them and their families....the bad ones of today take away from those down to earth individuals and it is a sad thing to have to see especially when you have seen the good days that are now gone...

Hermosillo Sonora is more dangerous
Monterrey now have a lot of army on the highways and roads
I know it's dangerous but there are hours and safe highways
here are large ranches and 90% are government people they care and put many deer and exotic wildlife and mountain lions come to these reservations, there are many rouds
I hunt with dogs walkers rounnie, left out of the truck
and sometimes on horseback when the lion went to the mountain.
here should not have dogs broke fox coon bear
We do not have many problems with cheating cowboys when they removed my dogs.
when I have work with jaguars go with Tony Ribera
GPS collars we are many American
and magazines
National Geographic also captured for
