Tell me your thoughts on using them to run lion in the winter? I found a good deal on one and have wanted it for a while, but am not sure if it would be a useful tool to run with or just another toy...

I would much rather use a sled to cut 10+ miles of snow roads and trails than hike it but maybe thats just me

yes it is worth it. when the snow is to deep for the rhino. i use the sled better than walking all day in the snow cutting tracks save your legs and get one

Used them for years faster than a truck to cut roads aslo get a dog box mounted on pull behind sled.
Have one we put four dogs in alot easier to just take them

when the snow gets deep ya better have one. don't know what i would do without it.jmo

Don't know what i would do with out my old sled, only advice i can give is get one you don't care about much, when you have two people and five dogs on one it gets fun and hard on stuff, but no the sleds are the only way i really hunt

yup and you usually have to drive them more in the dirt and rocks than snow.

They work real well if you have the conditions to run them.
Here in southern Alberta, the wind can be the biggest factor on how far you can go on one, ridges blow clean and drainages fill up so you have a few issues with no snow or to much snow to walk in without snow shoes.

I guess they are something few lion hunters do not use up this way,but they are expensive to maintain if your running them where conditions are poor with rocky ground.
I use one alot when we have snow otherwise it's shanks mare and a set of good snowshoes...

That looks like a nice box trailer, is it solid across bottom or does it have two skis

It is a flat 1/4" aluminum sleigh with a 3/8" puck board skin on the bottom.
I put nylon track sliders from a snowmachine on the bottom to keep it tracking on a slope and not slid side ways.
The box comes off and I put it on my trailer or in the rack behind the Land Crusier....to carry the hounds.
Sleigh goes on top when not in use.
This is all done with the use of two 1/2" cold roll steel pins 26" long to hold the box to the trailer, sleigh or rack.
Not cheap to buidl but work real well when you have 2 feet of more snow to travel in ...

Brent did you have that built or did you build it yourself ? That looks pretty slick !

I'll put in my 2 cents. Where we go it would be tough to pull a sled, deep snow, partly open rivers, brush, ect. It only holds 3 dogs but the right 3 dogs can catch anything. With the right ramp, I load it right on a pickup, no trailer needed. The suspension needs to be beefed up due to the weight of the dogs, heavy duty springs with the addition of a helper coil spring on the shock. Oh, and it has to be white so you can't find it when you go for a walkabout.lol

I tried welding one time...took me 10 lbs of rod to glue a 2 lb peice of steel to my horse trailer so I quit.
Had a freind come over and showed him what I wanted..... made a couple changes after I used it a couple times and it works slick now!!!
