Saturday mourning 10-01-11 well the wind blew all night long still needing rain but I woke up that A.M. no dew drank a pot of coffee watching the clock hopeing the wind would lay. Finally about one hr before day the wind stoped blowing I said well not much time left but Im going anyway. Loaded the dogs went to the best place I could think of and no cigar, not even a tailwag, so I went to the next place and there was what I was looking far. Mr. cat was going infront of the truck and there was a little dew on his feet. Put the strikedogs down and they went to work, tails went to switching you could tail they were getting a wiff of scent. hunted about one and onehalf miles down the road and he had turned off in a cotton field well it was on the dogs went to opening and about 10 min latter they had him jumped. Got my pups turned out all were in the race. 54 degrees man what a cat race 11 hounds really make a roar. In and out of the cotton back in the rough about 10 min then back in the cotton and back and forth well they had been after this cat about one hr and running him right when he decided to come back in the cotton and stay a while the dogs were running close to him you could see them jumping looking for him they knew they were close. mr. cat tried one more time for the thicket but this time it didnot work. race lasted 90 min good as I have ever had. good hunting Robert!

do your hounds kill the bobcats or just chase? is a bobcat hunt similar to a red fox hunt?
i'd love to give it a go. hunted feral cats here plenty of times with terriers but they go to the first tree they can get.
what type of hounds you got?

I run walker foxhounds. Yes they kill the cat. They do not tree and I dont want them to. I have done my share of coon hunting and my territory is to ruff and alligaters are plentyful. I have just been there and done that . Not putting people down that like to do that but I could count one one hand the real coon races that I had ever year that lasted over 15 min and I like to hear longer race than that. My cat dogs are greyfox breed hounds.

Good Story,

I've been so busy here lately I haven't even gotten out yet and season started last month.. this is pathetic... Reading your story makes me want to get out there even more now.

we dont like shooting bolting foxes or when they go to holes to quick either. we like good long hunts, longer the better. better test of your hounds when a fox runs em all over the county for 2 or 3 hours. tbh i'd rather see a good long hunt and the fox get away then get a kill quick or put oone in a hole for digging.

Harryshound, I dont like killing a fox at all. I have never shot a fox or cat in front of the dogs and will not. If my hounds can catch the cat then that is between him and the dogs. If I dont have the quality dogs to do the job then he lives to run another day!
