I dont mean to start anything but I was just wondering which is harder for hounds to hunt a mt. Lion a bobcat or a bear?

For the dogs it is bobcat by far no comparison in the training and ability in a bear or lion dog to what it takes to be a bobcat dog. As well as for the hunter, but of course I am prejudice. Dewey

Lynx- Master's degree
Bobcat- University degree
Lion- High school some collage
Bear- Grade school High school

If were talking running them with one to three dogs, I'll pick a rough bear, one that runs hounds down and BITES.

By far the Bobcat any dog can tree one once in awhile but do it on a regular basis and it takes a very special kind of dog.

Gotta be an Upper Michigan 42# tom with a empty belly, runnin a cedar swamp and frozen river, at 10 below zeroin Jan. with a crust on the snow. It's even better if he has a bag of tricks developed from being dogged by counterfit cat dogs !!!

I had some dogs that consistently caught bobcats, but looked real piss poor when they trashed on a bear. They got it stopped a couple times but lacked the guts to hold it there.

Everyone says that a good bobcat dog will smoke a lion, but after watching dogs that are acclimated to trailing lions in sub zero crusted snow, I would have to say lion hunting and consistently producing trees in all weather has its share of challenges.

Like Redwood Coonhounds analogy, you need the right tool for the job.

For my dogs bobcats were the easiest.

which ever the hound in question has run the least of.
