So I was wondering what a guy could do to train a hound through the summer months when you cant run cats? How do you keep their senses up to par and ready for the up coming hunting season? Any and all ideas are welcome...You have green blood here so that might explain such a silly question.
Thanks John

I like to run my hounds on skunks, porcupines and badger durring the summer months. Keeps em in top notch condition.

On a more serious note, it depends on what you local resources consist of.

This is a difficult situation in many states who do not allow for pursuit seasons. Most of these states will even write a citation if you are out in the woods with hunting dogs unleashed when there is no season running.

I usually just get on my skate board at the park, and take a couple of hounds at a timeon a leash and let them pull me like that Dog Whisperer guy on the TV. This really keeps them legged up, and the added bonus is that a lot of little old ladies bring cats and small dogs to the park, and they are all cats to my hounds so we get some exciting races if somewhat confrontational at times. LOL!

JUST KIDDING GUYS SET BACK DOWN.

It's Moose, elk, deer and pronghorns for me in the summertime with an occasional coyote thrown in for spice.. LOL!

You can catch a porkypine in the summer.... Hmm I thought my dogs were good at that.. Guess I need to get some better dog, I only catch them when I can hunt something else..

I just road, and exercise them to try and keep them in shape as best I can. That and let them bet pets and play for a couple months, work on handling and stuff.
