i went out with the local guys coon hunting so far they have shown me 10 slick trees and no coon with there dogs

they have been off since last year is there a reasonable excuse

they are probably a little rusty

Hows the leaves on the trees the willows in utah are still green and bushy there mite be coons in there

Dogs slick tree because the tree still has the scent of the coon in it. One could be okay but 10 is just ridiculous and obviously those dogs don't know what to do.

Yea I would suggest that you NEVER take your dogs hunting with those hounds..lol..my hounds will slick sometimes in the summer months, sometimes because they really think the coon is there and other times the coon just jumps trees and isnt there anymore. But if they didnt turn off the lights and correct the dogs, then they will never break them of it!

i used to coon hunt too much . we had hell for a couple months now my ol gyp did not ever lie . and we got to slick treein . i couldn't figure out what the heck was up till one night i solved the problem . appears a ouple on ringtails had moved into my honeyhole they are hell on a dog at night . had a nother expireience with an ol coon my dog appeared to be slick treein on a big ol oak every night . well i was out squirrel huntin at day light one day and the dogs caught a big ol boar coon at the base of that tree . we just never could see the coon do to the size of the branches in that oak .

A lot of things can cause it. Breeding,spot lighting coon in trees and dumping dogs on them,hunting with other tree happy dogs,over encouraging dogs to tree .There is a fine line you can break them from treeing all together or you can make them tree happy. Good Luck,Larry

last coon season i had bought a redtick female about seven years old. the first time i put her down she went out barking. seemed like she was doing it right. she trailed for about 400 yards then came up treed. she had a beautiful change over from bawl to chop on tree. we looked all over couldnt find anything. i finished hunting her for the rest of the season. i walked into about twenty slick trees. i was getting really frustrated with her and didnt know what to do. every one i talked to said she wasnt worth keeping. i know this dog was hunted hard before. she was totally trash free. this spring i got her a couple caged coons and let them go. she did it perfect. i could tell her voice was totally different when running these hot coon. i put on a shock collar and hunted all sumer. i would shock her when i could tell she was gonna slick tree. i started to tree more and more coon. i already shot out twenty some coon this year to her this year. i still walk in to an occasional slick tree but she is getting better and better. but i know she is extremely tree happy. i think she was just trailing old tracks that the coon were up there but then left. because she does it perfect all the other time but i still don't know. i had thought of a hundred things.

was you hunting with walker hounds? if so thats why they are slick treeing SOB's

I always figured it was due to dogs not checking the tree to see if they could strike the coon off.
