about 10-15...25. some times thats dumping more in on a race. but thats not because we need that many to catch one, thats just how many us guys have between two trucks, dogs dont learn if there sitting in the box...and i think 1/2 the fun is every one having a young dog or two in the race.
You can tree with one dog, if thats your goal.

I agree with that.
I like 6-10. Any less and your chances of catching seem to start going down (depending on the dogs, I have seen 1, 2 & 3 dog packs catch very consistently). But at very least you are not exposing very many young dogs. Any more than that and I think it is hard for all the dogs to have enough room to escape if the bear stops and starts charging the dogs, this depends a lot on the type of cover the bear stops in. It also depends a lot on the composition of the pack, but if you have 25 dogs that are all pressing in trying to bay tight and the bear charges one of those dogs is probably going to be caught, you probably also have one hell of a program rolling! to many dogs get in the way i have seen alot of good dogs get hurt cause of another gettin in the way of him or her gettin out the way. but thts wht you get when there is a big group of people every body wants there dog in the chase. Ive seen on serval ocassion one dog tree a bear and thats wht i consider a bear dog! thats my opinion and you no wht they say about them lol

I run 4 and a pup.I use to run 8 but soon realized that its hard to find that many that run the same speed for long periods if need be.So the front 3 or 4 dogs were doing all the catching,so why feed 8 when I can tree 80+ % with 4?
To answer your question, expecially since Garmin you can tree more bear than you think with 1 dog.It happened for me 3 times this summer with a dog that won't be 3 until April.

I run between 3 and 7. When I run 7, 2 of them are young pups.

most of the times 2-4 hounds get the job done. i`ve treed quite a few bears with just 1 dog.

my advice is to run only what you can handle too many dogs can be a nightmare.this means at home as well .you will enjoy your dogs alot more ,and they will be happier .

azplott dumped 2 dogs on a cold track, last year and just when we gave up, we walked in to his slow ride female and elvis male fighting the bear on the ground, it was around 400 lb boar, his elvis dog ended up getting a little cut up, had we known about the ground fight before we would have sent a few more in to get him treed, i would say at least 3 smart dogs to be safe
