What methods do you use? I've always took mine to the vet. My grandpa used calf bands on his mutts. I know one guy who cut his own. I've been considering of using calf bands and save money. Would there be any complications if you got both testicles ?
Thanks

I sure wouldn't think there should be any problems. I do all my own dogs and so does my father in law. Restraining them is the hardest part if you don't know what your doing. Other than that just cut them like a hog or a horse, not a bull. Each sack gets it's own cut. Pull them out nice and far and cut them. You can do this while your roading the dogs and then continue roading them. You won't even notice a difference. Remember when restraining them that it's brains and not braun.
Also might check the Almanac for best days to casturate.

I do love my dogs. I've done as many castrations as most vets. Hell maybe more!

Hey Shorty quick question how much you pay for all of your dog (s), tracking equipment, guns and gear etc?
BTW-I 've done neuters on dogs, hogs, calfs, cats (big & small) rabbits, guinea pigs and more. Trust me this ain't a pissin contest

Oh how much I have paid

Waaaayyyyy to dang much! I'm not saying not to take your dog to a vet. If you don't know what your doing I actually highly recommend that you do use a vet. I myself have never cut half the species as you or most vets for that matter. I have cut thousands upon thousands of cattle, horses, hogs , cats and dogs. I also learned the process from some very good vets. That, is why I prefer to do it myself. Why pay someone to do something that I can do myself. My money comes the hard way and I see no reason to give it away. If I couldn't do the exact same job myself I'd pay to have it done.

No disrespect intended but who do you think taught the people that taught the vets. Indians, Ranchers, Farmers, and Houndsmen were doctoring their livestock and pets long before any vets were around. If a person is raised around animals all their lives and knows how to take care of them with out help from a "Shelter or someplace cheap" how is that not showing your dog some love?

No harm done Doc. I know exactly where your coming from. People who don't know shouldn't experiment without guidance from a professional.

So I've heard that to do any good behavioral wise that it's best to castrate them early like 6 mos. What are ya'll's thoughts on that?

Nope seen it change many older dogs 4-8 years of age but it is not 100% . But very high percentages work
