218 bobcats out of the 300 have been harvisted in the Billings region and I doubt if more than 5% of those have been taken with hounds since it hasn't snowed since before the season started. We were out hiking last weekend where we run bobcats and got stopped by a B.L.M. park ranger asking if we knew anyone trapping the area because they got reports of a bobcat running loose with a trap dragging behind it. I hope we get some snow before the quota is filled, my pups are coming along but they sure aren't dry ground dogs.

Ive never liked snares however leg hold traps i think are fine. We need to be careful throwing all trappers into one group together its like seeing a picture of a lion kitten that someone harvested with dogs and saying all hound men are the same we all know that everyone has there own set of harvesting ethics. there will always be some guys who kill everything they trap as well as everything someone trees with there dogs alot of us dont like these kind of people. But keep one thing in mind some trapper might become your next best friend if your dogs get killed by wolves while your out one day trying to tree a cat. I have a little advice for some try real hard to do your best at trying to get yourself some dogs that will catch a cat on dry ground that way you dont have to depend on snow to get it done. and maybe just maybe your jealousy level will go down a little when your quota is getting filled by trappers because you havent got any snow to run your dogs on and your season is close to ending while your dogs have enjoyed there chains all winter. Think of how much fun you would of had this winter if your dogs were able to catch a cat on dry ground and you didnt have to depend on the snow.

If this is your private hunting area, then you can do something about it Huh?

realdog, not to start anything but if you think I am jealous because my dogs cant catch bobcats come for a hunt (you will be impressed). As for dry grounding not going to happen in this AREA bring your best and if you can catch consistantly in our cold dry conditions I will by everyone of your dogs. Been at it a few years always willing to learn a few things but dry grounding here wont be one of them. Its easy to say it can be done but doing it is a different story. My hat is off to the few trappers that let the small cats go but snares there is no letting them go! Cant do anything about it as like I said he is crowding it by that I meen area around. jmo Andy

I hate snares and think they should be banned had my best dog caught in a snare about 2months ago and if she wasnt the smartest dog I have ever seen she would have been dead she froze in her tracks and didnt fight the snare and when I got to her she looked at me like "help get this damn thing off me" but still wouldnt move also had my jagd pup get caught in a huge leg hold guess they were sold out of the correct size but thought he was going to loose his leg over it. Damn thing bout it neither trap was properly tagged and was set next to a road so every anti that rolled by could see what was going on

Andy i doubt i would be impressed i already am not impressed with your first post of putting all trappers in the same bucket together. I believe trapping is a herritage that needs to be kept as well as hound hunting . I like both i also realize there is bad guys in both areas as well as good. Also like the one fella pointed out if this is happening in your private hunting area Andy is there nothing you can do to stop this from happening in YOUR PRIVATE HUNTING AREA.

Like I said in my post nothing can be done as it is bordering area just dont approve of it. This is my opinion and like I also said anyone is welcome to come prove me wrong about dry grounding bobcats here have said it many a times to the TALKERS but never had anyone show up and prove me wrong. Andy

Hey Andy, If you get someone to come and do some dry grounding or bare grounding,i would like to come and watch  . How would they go about it Rigging or Roading ??? I would think them poor dogs would be pop sicles be for to long if rigging. If they do any roading they might need motor bike tubes cut down for boots , that way the frozen ground dont grind there pads off

Any do you hear it toot, toot, toot,TOOT,TOOT. thats the sound of you blowing your own horn. Talkers lets see here i have under50 posts on this site you have over 900 , and i am not a dog jocky that has a add in front of everyone of my posts, and whats with the childish thing of show up at my house and we will see whos sword is longer. I have already invited everyone else to do the same thing ever wonder why no one takes you serious. First of all i would never sell you a dog because of your personality.Second of all if i drove up there and we went hunting and you watched dogs start tracks that your dogs acted like were never there because they didnt have the desire to trail that old of a track or that tuff of a track, in those dry cold conditions. and it came time for you to pay up i am almost positive thats when you would say" I was just kidding ha ha.", One thing for sure though if you keep inviting someone to come prove you wrong someday you will get your wish when you invite someone with your same personality and they want to come show you the size of there sword. you ever heard of murphys law? when this happens please post it on here with the story so we all can enjoy it . I am sure you will right?

Well if were venting here on this post i would like to add something as well. Twist, i think you contribute good advice and are a solid person and probably a great guy and houndsmen but it does drive me a little crazy to see your topper again banner thingy every time you post. Don't you have a whole thread that you keep up with topper again stuff, isn't that enough. Don't mean to cause hard feelings just doing a little venting myself.

My best friend is a trapper his catch is mostly toms but its his lures that make the difference he uses snares on culverts only as well for cats. I hate snares in the open and conibear sets for cats. As for other trappers, I have one area where a guy only snares so harvesting only toms is out for that area. You can't hunt here without a trapper in your areas or near it. I just try to target the toms before they get em.
