Ok I know this has nothing to do with hounds or big game hunting but its worth a shot. What type or brand of Snow Blower do you recommend. I know we got lots of members on here in spots that get lots of snow. Im not wanting to break the bank but dont want to buy a pile at the same time. Thanks Chris

I think our's is a 'White', pretty sure it's a tecumseh engine but I think almost all of them will have one of those, I don't run the thing so that's the best I can tell you...just be willing to spend a little more and get a bigger more powerful machine it will pay off in the long run. I can't remember if we got ours at Tractor Supply or Billington Ace hardware in Susanville. Also get keep the blades and the chute waxed up as good as possible, we use a space heater to heat it up and then wax it. Find out what kind of shear pins it has and buy a BUNCH to keep on hand.
How much snow did you guys get up there anyway? Wet nasty, probably hard to drive in crap down here...guess I'll find out as soon as it breaks.

Hi live to hunt, shows that I don' travel much, I thought that it was all warm and sunny in CA.
Up here most of the well known name brands are actually made by MTD and so parts are easy to get and fit all. It seems that the exception are the Sears products you have to get your parts from them(and wait).
There are the models that are more strongly built with a heavier scoop, drive and beaters.
I have a big gravel yard and the dealer that I dealt with said that the light cheap models would not last me 5 years.(I think we get more snow than you most years)
For a small or paved yard I guess I,d buy the cheap one. Good luck.

How much snow did you get in this storm over there? We got an easy 9in in town probably a little more cuz my diff was draggin in it pretty good with my yota.
Ill tell you this i remember my dad bought a craftsman snowblower back in 93 when i was around 8 it lasted him around 10 years and he sold it the only thing he didn't like about it was that it had a track and it was constantly spinning the track off or breaking some part in the track and was a pain. He then bought a green one (i don't remember the brand) with wheels and only kept it for 3or4 years and got rid of it he just didn't like it. He has a 12 horse craftsman again that is about 6 years old and running like a champ. It has tires and he loves it will probably last him another 6. The good thing about craftsman is there is a sears in susanville and one in chico that can do everything for you and pretty fast. You probably don't need a 12 horse one but the bigger you get the easier things are going to be for you.
Also you don't need shear pins and can just use soft bolts that you can get at a hardware store, just find the right size. A lot cheaper and work just as good.

Thanks for the info guys I was looking at the Troy-Bilt ones and also the Ariens ones. I talked to a few guys about the Craftsmen ones and also the MTD most guys didnt have much good things to say about them. Im not really sure how much we got here last night I was thinking 16" to 18". I shoveled the drive way at 8pm and by 7 am it was sure a mess. Once I got to the mill they were all saying we got 2 feet last night.
Ker_man it is always sunny and warm here in Cal. shoot it was 7 here last week and sunny

As for the snow fall this is my first yr up here so we will see but I know last winter they got 28 or 29 feet of snow for the yr. but avg is only like 15'.

Wow! we're having a crappy winter only opened the yard once. Trying to run in the crust and can see all the plowing in the fields. That said I'm not interested in moving 15' of snow
I have a 11 hp Columbia (MTD) heavy model and have had no problems and usualy have more snow. Luck, Terry

Cant go wrong with a honda. The forest service uses one to clear around the outhouses at the snowmobile staging areas. It chews up frozen packed walked on snow all winter long.
