Dog Food Storage ?

I've seen posts about what types of feed, but nothing about storage. So my question is how to store your food without the elements or critters getting it?

I kennel my dogs in a part of a barn so I keep my food in there with em. I only buy a few bags at a time to avoid spoilage, mice and other nasty things. I do recruit the local cats to kill my mice and not poison. No coon problems yet with my methods.

I am interested how guys who make there own food store for easy handling, and quick feedings.

I keep all of my dog food in a metal 55 gallon drum with a lock ring. I can get about 200 lbs of food in there, which lasts me a little over a month. Too much of a pain to store much more than that for me.

I have a friend who uses old 96 gallon trash can totes (the kind the company brings to you to put at the curb). That seems to work well for him.

I buy dry food one ton at a time from a local wholsale distributor. It saves me about 2.50 a bag. I store it in a mouse proof shed next to my dog run. I then have a plastic 55 gal. drum sitting on blocks inside a coverd area in with the dogs where I feed them.

Plastic "Brute" trash can.. Holds 3 bags of my food with an inch to spare ;)

Rain, mice, rats and my cat "Jerk" stays out with no issues. :joker

Bin that you mount to the wall, pull a lever and food comes out of bottom. Pretty nice, dont have to bend over. Got it from a nasco magazine.

We have been using pickle barrels,i think that is what would be stored or shipped in them?.They have an in lid with a gasket and then a large screw on lid.We have had the same three since the late 80's  8) .They are a very heavy plastic so this helps with condensation and they are fairly easy to find.
