I think there are alot of greenies who follow this forum learning lion hunten first this way and fixxen too hunt lion them selves/ there room and ya need to be a sturrewart too helpen em along/ I`ve read ya do !

so what state record lion over hounds has been set in your home state , and how big is your bigest lion caught in your state weighed ? Not field gutted full weight only.

In our record book Oregon goes by skull size not weight and the book does not say if it was tak'en with hounds or not.. Sorry, but eather way these are some BIG cats

Well that was not Cecil J. question you have heard of, Maybe a record bs story but none the less intersting. For New Mexico I haven't heard of a fatter cat than my certified 227 pound tom of several years ago, but I am sure there have been some. I heard of a 276 lb. cat from Arizona being taken in 1926 but photos of him don't place him in that category. The monster 16" cat taken by Mike Ray outfitter and Brian Williams shooter in Colorado several years ago was over 235 pounds a true giant, but then again small compared to some of tge tremendous male jaguars of the Matto Grosso and Patinal swamps of Brazil and Boliva taken by Tony De Almeida weighing well over 300 lbs.

Hey Mike where can we see pictures of this 16 foot cat from colorado. Sounds like a monster.

mike said 16" thats inches the skull score i think i hope not at sixteen foot cat that would be something else.. I seen dale denney's washington state record cat killed by buckingham that cat looked like a female african lion and if i remember right it weighed in the upper 180's and was not quite 10 foot. The biggest cat i was ever on that we killed was 9'3" and weighed in at 183lbs. that was taken near kettle falls wa. in 1984

I had a old fellow shot one up here (NW Montana) that weighed 192# and was 8'6" and he was missing about 6" of his tail (froze off). He was a monster, the old fellow shot the Tom out of a big fir tree about 90' up with a 22-50 rifle (never again) and the cat hit the ground mad as hell when he the ground. The old fellow shot him once more after a battle with me and my leashed up dogs ( got lucky that day).

we had a lion hit on the road down the road from my house. being the weirdo that i am i strung it up and weighed it. It was a female that weighed in full body 153 lbs. I've had alot of guys think i'am full of it,, saying that the heaviest female they have seen was about 100-125lbs...

Back in 62-65 I owned two American Blueticks UKC papered male hounds and run coon,bob cat and lion and a little bear with em. In 63 I was just graduateing from high schook in woodland ca. and I loved too hunt hound and learned it and hunted my 2 blue dogs by my self onceI drove and made a dog box ! My 2 blues was a 3 1/2 yr old smokey river bluetick from russelville Ark from Burnnie Garr named Smokey River Blue Monk and a Vaughn bred 2 1?2 yr old named Vaughns Blue Blue . both hounds was purple ribbon UKC papered hounds/ there call names by me was Ol Arkie & Blue . Vaughn sent Blue too Jerald McDanials of Ca and I got the young dog and I had Arkie shiped by rail too Sacramento direct from Bernnie Garr.
The point of this all is some one asked which hound makes the best cat dog ?breed wize he also added! I still can`t say but I will tell ya this I caught in rocked-up or treed-up every darned lion they ever freelanced walk hunted casted out started for me and neither had ever been on big game befor by anyone else/ they was naturals and they wasent the coldest nosed nor warm nosed , they wasent whole in the wind speed either ! They didnt go out and strike one and quickly tree it up either they run there gutts-out but allway on lion or bobcat too/ for me completed the chase successfully. Some times too em 6-7 hrs too get er done but Id find em treed or rocked or den holed up in a rocks in stuff like that/ allways ! As I looked back on it that how they were and I got a pretty accurate vission of my hunts way back in the days!
So though I treed lion with Plotts, with Treeing Walkers, with Redbones/ I think some wasjust as corragiouse and defently a couple was colder nosed/ the two blue dog never failed me an I learned about lion my first yrs of lion hunten in the pacific mtn range mtns from the foothills up out of brooks ca too sheet iron mtn above Elk Creek Ca. with them two dogs and me started-out carren a single burner lantern and had a carbide lite on my minners cap and carried a 2 celled short flashligh in my coat and had a 20 ga.shotgun with a dog lead made up for dubles snaped. I made my dog box out of a converted rice field check box for water levesin field of young rice standing in water . my adopted dad didnt hunt but allowed me too .
So all this from back as a teenager and young an dumb with just desire too hunt and picken evert hound hunters brain i could too learn from asking a gillion qts. of em ! They allways told me the truth and helped metoo it all and that debtI can never never fully repay !

I believe if you go to the 2006 issue of the Boone and Crockett records there is a story in the cougar section and a picture showing Brian Williams holding that Colorado monster up. He was a toad!

Mike I never seen a boonNcrockett records book though I`ve certainly know they got em . I guess I keven thought that much of my self too have the need because I was just liveing hunten each day and it was a natural full time consumeing (all) too me ! I would like to see that sucker though and maybe you can get it put up for all of us to see and fathum .

Was on a Washington cat a couple years ago that weighted 187 1/2 lbs. Not sure if the skull has been measured- This cat was huge. It only had 1 cannine tooth left in its mouth. The biologist said that this cat and another female were collared. The bio hit the woods to see why the female mortality signal was going off and this tom was next to her. He said the tom lion had killed her.

Last year I was on another hunt in Washington and a 165 lb cat was killed. My buddy shot it with a bow - It scored 15 5/16 I believe it will be # 3 in the book.

Big game wieght is constantly changing do to time of year and when it last fed etc.

Big toms can have 15 plus pounds of meat in its gut at harvest time that has nothing to do with the size of the cat.

Montana lions recorded in the book have historically smaller skull measurements than record book cats killed in other ares's
190 pound lions have been taken also with barely 15 inch skulls.l

I never believe the wieght of any cat unless it is put on the scale including my own.
Guessing by looking at a cat in a tree can easily be missed by 10-20 lbs.

HONEST montana lion hunters who have seen more than a couple hundred lions treed or dead will all tell you the same thing if said to be a 200 hundred pound cat lets see it on the scale. Then take the meat out of it's gut and see what you got.

I hear of all of these fat cats treed and in reality it's like the 10 pound trout everybody catches but never has any proof.
Exateration is part of hound hunting but hearing is not believing just like most of the posts.

I am not calling anybody a liar just really leary about a all these fat cat stories when in all the years very few if any have any prooved other than a educated guess. Some cat hunters hunt alife time and put up a couple hundred or more cats and never have recorded one over 190lbs.
I'll post a big tom and lets guess the wieght.
