I started this topic in the Plott section but thought I may start it here to so that I might reach more folks. I was wondering how most of you handle training in the off season? I have 2 Plotts now for the first time. I have been hunting with friends until now, this year I have bought 2 Plotts and wondering how to handle the downtime of our off season. Does anyone take dogs to work during spring season? We don't have a spring season in Va. Any ideas? Thanks

we do alot of roading just to keep the hounds in shape and in the hotter months take them to the river.

I coon hunt in the off seasons but here its not likely to have problems bear hunting with coons like it probably is in your area. Roading helps and doing drags is another option. Maybe move to a state you can hunt bear more?

i like to road the dogs all winter long. when they get tired of runnin i put them on the box and rig them.
the dogs think they are hunting for bear, but we usually dont get any strikes until april.
if i have pups, which is rare, ill hunt them on coon for the first winter. then put em on bear when theyre old enough to run with the big dogs.
