Ok guys given you have the time to work with it and are not in a hurry would you rather have a foal you have hand raised and trained yourself or would you pickup an older mule ready for the trail? I am just trying to decide what to do. I have always been a DIY type of guy but am new to the world of equine. I have raised and trained steers, hogs, dogs, and goats for 4H but have never owned a horse or mule. Only been around friends and that was several years ago.

mules are pretty tough to deal with, and very hard to darn near imposible to undo mistakes. if it is new to you you will more than likely make a couple. and they just aren't real forgiving like a horse. good luck with what ever decision you make. take care!

I would agree with slowandeasy, mules are unforgiving on mistakes. A broke horse would be a better bet for a greenhorn than a mule. Mules are a different character and takes a different character to ride them in my opinion LOL. Not saying they are bad, they are great but just in the right hands.

Since its your first get the trail ready- kind of same thing people tell a rookie about dogs, you can learn from them also. once you get your head wrapped around things then you can think about raising one.
