Training question?

When training a young hound can you live trap a bobcat and let it go in an area you know and can see the trail it takes? I am not talking about letting the hound watch the cat run off. I mean let the cat go and then trail it 15 to 30 min later? Does anyone do this? To me it would be just like with bird dogs you train with live birds you plant. I have only been around birddogs and have NO experience with hounds. Just curious Thanks.

Yup, that would work great. Only if they have never run one I would let them see it run off and they still might not catch it. Good luck,

Big time 9 you have to be careful with stuff like what you are talking about it might be illegal in your state, and even if it is not, you could get yourself into some trouble with it. You probably will not get many responses to your question for that reason.
I have had people approach me with a club because I was coon hunting. Coon hunting is not immoral or illegal, yet I have learned not to flaunt it in certain places. The world is getting a little crazy, so I am just saying, check your laws and check your culture and avoid a confrontation with either one if you can. some judges might slant the law in favor of popular culture, and they might use what they have to make a political point consistent with their own personal view. I have been confronted by law keepers who did not know the laws and figured there just must be one against what I was doing because they didn't personally like what I was doing. Luckily, I knew the laws and I was not breaking one. They were smart enough not to write me a ticket on something they were so uninformed on. So... Know your laws regarding hunting, trapping and training. There might be one regarding what you are talking about.

I'm pretty sure the guy with the club would have gotten a .22 between the eyes if he came after me. How would clubbing hunters be ok but killing coons not???

Thank you. You made my point perfectly. The world is turning upside down and backwards. Wrong is right/ right is wrong. And you might spend the rest of your life in prison which is just what those people want. I would not give them that victory quite so easily.

There is some outstanding suggestions and guidance in the "Cat Training " section. Give it a look.
