You can buy a flea and tick powder from natura. You put it in the food, and the ticks hate the taste of their blood. My dogs have been tick free since I satrted using the stuff

Explain? The science doesnt support that idea. If used on externally it can be effective.

I guess somehow, it dries the hair follicle to the point where the bugs aren't attracted. I dunno, it just works lol

That crap is Diatomaceous earth. If it is working for you rather than say you don't really have a tick problem. I would be glad to sell you a bottle of the specail top secret stuff I got. Just tap water, but i'm sure some will swear by it!

The main ingredients of stuff that works is either permethrimn or fipronil. The latter has no effect on skeeters. There are a few others but these are the main 2. Can buy them both in bulk, or with the fancy label of your choice.

Do the research on the DE. Maybe it's a CA thing. Where lymes is not endemic. Even wikipedia says that is has questionable results as a wormer. It does not end up in the blood stream to make the blood taste bad. Where is it supposed to work is in the intestines where the jagged edges are said to cut the parasites up. HMMM, if it is coarse enough to do that type of damage. Hard to believe it has no effect on the dog. Where it may have an effect, and is outlined in the maker provided. Is by applying it to and rubbing into the animals coat. Where it can causes the dehydration effects it is known for. It's right in the companies website.

Now the same thing goes for the Ivomec. I had to laugh a little reading that it killed ticks. Bet the company would like to have that info. Most likely that neighbor has a nest on his property. I bet if you tie your dogs up in his yard you will have ticks. Here is a list of what Ivomec kills.

IVOMEC® EPRINEX® (eprinomectin) kills with up to 99.9% efficacy.1
Internal (adults and L4, unless otherwise noted)

Brown stomach worm Ostertagia ostertagi (including inhibited L4)
Barbers pole worm Haemonchus placei
Black scour worm Trichostrongylus colubriformis
Thread-necked intestinal worm Nematodirus helvetianus
Intestinal threadworm Strongyloides papillosus (adults only)
Nodular worm Oesophagostomum radiatum
Whipworm Trichuris spp. (adults only)
Lungworm Dictyocaulus viviparus
Small intestinal worm Cooperia oncophora
Small intestinal worm C. punctata
Small intestinal worm C. surnabada
Hairworm T. axei
Black scour worm T. longispicularis (adults only)
Hookworm Bunostomum phlebotomum

External

Biting louse Damalinia bovis
Short-nosed cattle louse Haematopinus eurysternus
Long-nosed cattle louse Linognathus vituli
Small blue louse Solenopotes capillatus
Mange mite Sarcoptes scabiei
Mange mite Chorioptes bovis (tailhead mange)
Horn flies Haematobia irritans
Northern cattle grub 1st instar Hypoderma bovis
Northern cattle grub 2nd instar Hypoderma bovis
Northern cattle grub 3rd instar Hypoderma bovis
Common cattle grub 1st instar Hypoderma lineatum
Common cattle grub 2nd instar Hypoderma lineatum
Common cattle grub 3rd instar Hypoderma lineatum

There is many other old wives tales, and just plain ignorance. Putting Ivory dish soap on. Eating more garlic, drinking vinegar. Blah, blah, blah. I know a real good cure for many of these folks. Douse oneself in gas, and strike a match. No ticks!

This is not rocket science. Just have to red the labels, or make a few clicks of the mouse. The info is all there. So no excuse for ignorance.

A lot of folks use and swear by using the Sevin dust. Which is an effective pesticide. Which is great in the kennel or around the yard. But offers little to no protection in the field. I'm sure some residuals will be present on the dogs coat that may help. It can also be gotten in liquid form. Which I suppose could be applied to the dogs. Not real sure about that or the effects it may have on the dog.

This is serious business. At least to some of us where tick diseases are endemic. Once you have lost a dog to a tick disease, or had to medicate the dog for life. Your outlook will change. Once you have contracted a tick disease. Your outlook will change. Gone will be the wives tales. Even still it only takes one. All the protection in the world sometimes is not enough. I have had 3 bouts of Lymes now. Could not even put a number on the amount of bottles of OFF, or like products I go through a year. In addition to spraying my clothes with permethrin. Still a few will get through once in awhile. Even when you think they are not out or around.

Like I said this is a serious problem. That needs to be dealt with things that work. Not wives tales. To each their own. If you think magic crystals will protect you. Then have at it!

Knowing that permethrin is a neuro toxin and a known carcinogen, I have chosen not to use it on myself or the mutts........as I know it will enevitably find it's way in my system if I do. As an alternative, I have researched, and made a concotion of natural tick repellant, that seems to be effective. .Yes, it stinks, but thats why it is effective, ticks hate it. It does not seem to affect the dogs sense of smell hunting ability either. Used it four times now, and no ticks.
It doesn't last forever, so for an all day hunt, I would reapply every 4-6 hrs as needed.

ingredients;

almond oil base,
geranium oil 10 drops
pennyroyal oil 10 drops
eucalyptus oil 5 drops
cedarwood oil 5 drops
tea tree oil 5 drops
