Question about over the rail dog box.

Hey guys I have a question about an over the rail dog box. I am making one for my pickup and I am trying to keep the weight down since it will be made out of steel. I don't want this box to have a floor. It will have a divider down the middle down the length of the box for two sides. So basically what I am building is going to be a frame about 6 inches high above the rail with a roof and then the end closest to the tailgate will be to the bottom of the bed and have the doors (like normal I think?)
My question is how do i secure the box to the truck? Does it need to be secured to the truck or will gravity do its part? I just don't want to hurt my dogs or my truck.
Thanks
Matt

Run a cable, or a rachet strap to the d rings in your truck bed if it has some. If you have a cheap truck you might even just bolt it down.

I bolt mine at two places on each side to the rail. It is also bolted down to the bed at the back of the truck next to the doors. that keeps it from bouncing up and pinching dogs as we are going over bumps.

Thanks guys for the responses. I am going to probably try ratchet straps over or through the box in front and back to d hooks already in the truck. Any pictures of ratchet or cable applications would be appreciated.
That bear rig is almost exactly what I am building.

I welded a chain link on each corner of the box and used turn buckles to secure it to the tie down rings in the truck.

Thanks for the reply. You welded the link to the inside corners right? How hard is it to get to the front turn buckle. Im a bigger guy. Could you post a pic?

The front ones I jsut reach through and tighten or loosen. I assume you mean an over the rail box like this?

That is perfect!!! So you just reach through the opening and tighten the turnbuckle. Awesome I have been freaking out about how to secure the box and not make it look to rough.

If your tie downs are lower, add a few chain links with a quick link. Also, put a jam nut against your turnbuckle to keep it tight.
