Sounds like most the rivers in MT. Hunt the railway side- there's less traffic! Thank goodness for Garmin otherwise they could end up in danger in a hurry. Where are you located? If you want to find coon, you'll have to head over east to find any decent numbers of them. I'm just west of Missoula and have the same issues. Good luck!

In 1989 I spent some time hound hunting outside of Roundup MT. We coon hunted a lot on the Newton's land. The Musselshell River ran through some of his many, many, acres (even sections) of land. Mr. Newton was old then so i'm sure he is not around, but he didn't mind us hound hunting his land. He actually encouraged us to. It was full of coons and cats. We would hunt the Musselshell river starting just outside of Roundup and head toward Harlowton. We also would hunt the river heading east toward Miles City. At that time it was game rich country with no other hound hunters around. (At least that I knew of.) If its not too far that's where I would head. I'm sure things have changed throughout the years so I would do some research first.

That country is some tough trailing (dry rocky high desert type) with a lot of cactus that grows low to the ground. Its close to the type of country where I live, but we dont have the cactus. (Thank goodness).

Huntfairchase: I am just north of sidney and there are coons a plenty. If you could find a place to keep them hounds during your hitch i could take you a place or two that's pretty good hunting. pm me if your interested.
