What is the best way to teach a dog how to strike a bear from the box? Re

I think the best way to teach a hound to strike is to put them with a good strike dog and hopefully they learn what to do.

maybe this will help go to training tips forum under rigging for coon there are a bunch of suggestions on there that would maybe help you out some. you would just have to adapt the suggestions to your needs like using bear scent but like the guy before me stated the easiest way is with another strike dog you can trust. good luck Larry

if theyre bred right they will strike as naturally as we breathe.

the best rig dogs ive seen started striking just from riding in box with other dogs that would strike --some of them, not bad at striking bear before they ever ran one-- -i like to haul pups before they are old enuff to run , thats one benefit -
ive trained a few rig dogs without an older dog- watch for tracks after a rain --- park on track-- -set there till they bark-- if trainee doesnt bark let somebody else go --he will now , lol
when they strike trash -- you need to discourage that -
i do a lot of messing with dogs on a leash --both positive and negative training - if they strike reliably on a leash then its not a big jump to on the rig- i try not to do much trash breaking of pups on the rig - lol
easier to train dogs when you can judge age of tracks and see them --- which isnt so often -- lol
snow mud- sandy road --rite after a rain , edge of a cornfield--etc maybe youll see one cross-
when u get a chance like that - dont waste it -
i dont want to tell you its easy cause it isnt--- my idea has always been that if you cant train one--- you might have a tough time to keep one straight that is trained --

Well if you had a rig dog you wouldnt be posting this correct ?
I put Bear scent on coons and let the dogs chase them when their pups.
I had three pups this year and did this a couple of times.
The first day of the Bear hunt while I was trying 2 catch a cat they found a bear.
I usually rig them and hold scent out the window until they strike and then let them loose on the coon.
Then I try 2 free cast in a bear area or find a track.
Once you actually catch a Bear once or twice they will usually rig on their own, they rig cause they know that scent and what is at the end of the trail.
A wise man once told me if a dog will ride on the box he will rig eventually.
