you'll get aconsistantly better nose from purely field lines like the rankin lines from los cazadores kennel
dual purpose (show/field) lines are usually best worked as catchdogs, althoug some like calfucara have fair hot noses.
purely show lines are mostly worthless oversized caricatures of what dogos are supposed to be.

Pops,

Why would those lines have better noses? These guys don't let their dogos find hogs, they use them as running catch dogs. I'm not sure they are selecting or breeding based on trailingl ability.

the Rankins ran an all dogo pack for many years and racked up good numbers. Mike at Los Cazadores got his stock from the Rankins. not all of his dogos will honor the bay, especially if they hit a hot track on the way. Mike has many times turned out the dogos to baying curs only to have them catch different hogs they found on their own. he has & to my knowledge under certain conditions still does run just the dogos just not usually. yes, individual finding ability is considered in their breeding.
He loves his dogos but you won't get a more honest assesment of them from any other breeder.

Pops, possibly the reason some of them will not honor a bay is because deafness is a problem in the Dogo breed. This is a common problem in all breeds that are mostly white for some reason. Also at $1500 a pup, I would hope there wouldnt be many bad hogs where you are going to turn one loose!

The gene for the white undercoat in the dogo breed is also a gene for deafness if the body translates it as that, same reason a lot of dalmations are born deaf as well.

Mike at Los cazadores has had bad nights where as many as 8 or nine dogs (curs & dogos) got wrecked. that said i have never seen a pit control a hog as well as these big monsters. sometimes, SIZE MATTERS. the only other dog i have seen hit as hard and physically dominate even large hogs as well was a presa canario (another big high dollar dog).
deafness is an issue w/ the breed, Mike BAER tests his stock & pups and to my knowledge puts down bilateral deaf pups. not sure about the unilat dogs.
dogos are just stubborn independant minded dogs. some just want to find their own hog rather than catch some other dog's hog.

That makes me laugh. Every time I seen one of these so called catch dogs on video or even twice in real life try to catch it was a joke. They caught about like a damned cur. Catching and then readjusting and catchin again. Who in the hell would hunt a $1000 catch dog that dont catch. What a friggin joke!
