have a plott male that i got from a friend who told me he was good. Tracked and tree. I took him out when training season started and he did what the guy said he does for about the 1st month are so, he even rigs goodwhich the guy didnt say he did. He stuck with my lead dog and gave a good mouth when trailing, and treed some bear. Lately hes been falling out going off track and makes his way back to track and appears to be all confused when watching him on gps. looking for some insight. dont know if i want to give up on him, waiting up for him is getting old now that its kill season. dog is about 2.5yrs old. the other day a bear came out to us and my son shot/wounded a bear and i put him down as i did the bear went up and he treed the beat the hell. when the bear was shot out of tree he tore into it. ran him a cpl times after that and he still falls behind and goes to the point where he looks like he cant figure the track out. Insight anyone?

I've got a female plott doing the same thing. When she was young I fed her in to a bear on the ground and she must have ran into it. idn...Shes a fast dog but is always behind on a bear dicking around with the track just like you say. She trees great on a bear, chews on them when their dead but put a live one in front of her and shes done. I keep her for a coyote dog and just give her some exercise in bear season.

My bet is that he's coming back when the bear stops. Or he's got to have a buddy in there to have the confidence to go. It's up to you if that enough to keep him around. I sure wouldn't bet on him if you've got a nice bear that you want to kill. Sometimes dogs in their second season get into a slump and look terrible. Not sure if it's an independence thing or if they just start screwing around. The dog might be going through that, not sure.

Maybe it is just a terrible 2 thing that kinda slipped my mind, my lead dog went through that last year. 1st month he ran real good with just my lead. then i started adding couple pups. after thinking about it that might be whats going on because one of the pups is always with him when it happens. I guess ill just take him and the lead dog out once and see what happens.
